Lute Licata Sabo
Luta’s artistic journey began with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Design, a foundation that helped shape her understanding of structure, composition, visual systems, and creative problem-solving. After graduation, she moved into the vibrant cultural landscape of New York City, where she deepened her artistic training at several renowned institutions, including the School of Visual Arts, Parsons School of Design, and the Art Students League. These formative experiences connected her to the energy, rigor, and creative sophistication of New York’s art and design world.
Before fully expanding into her current fine art practice, Luta built a successful career in textile design within the Decorative Home Fashions trade. Her work in textiles reflects a refined sensitivity to pattern, surface, color, material, and scale. During this period, she earned significant recognition, including the prestigious National Curtain & Drapery Textile Design Award, an honor that speaks to her innovation and excellence within the decorative textile industry.
In 2004, Luta began a new creative chapter by transitioning from textile design into interior design. She further developed her skills at the Academy of Interior Design Arts, where she combined her knowledge of textiles with a more expansive understanding of space, atmosphere, and visual storytelling. This evolution allowed her to merge fine art, decorative design, and interiors into a distinctive artistic identity grounded in beauty, intuition, and material awareness.
Luta’s current artwork draws from a broad range of inspirations, including her imagination, the interiors and environments she designs, and the natural world around her. Her paintings often reflect an intuitive relationship with color, form, rhythm, and mood. Whether working in gouache, watercolor, or oil, she brings a designer’s eye and an artist’s sensitivity to each composition, creating works that feel both expressive and refined.
Nature plays a central role in Luta’s creative vision. Organic forms, botanical references, shifting light, and the textures of the landscape often inform her work, while her background in textiles and interiors brings an added sense of pattern, layering, and visual harmony. Her art bridges decorative beauty and emotional resonance, offering collectors work that is elegant, personal, and deeply connected to place.
Now based in Tryon, North Carolina, Luta continues to create artwork that reflects her diverse creative journey and sophisticated visual language. Her upcoming solo exhibition at Mirrorball Gallery in Tryon highlights the depth of her practice and celebrates her evolution from textile designer and interior designer to exhibiting fine artist.
Luta’s work speaks to collectors, interior designers, curators, and art lovers interested in contemporary painting, Tryon NC artists, women artists, textile-inspired art, nature-inspired artwork, watercolor painting, gouache painting, oil painting, and fine art for interiors. Her practice brings together decades of design expertise and a deeply imaginative studio process, resulting in artwork that is graceful, layered, and visually compelling.
