JEFFREY WILCOX PACLIPAN
MARVEL US
Marvel Us is a vibrant celebration of LGBTQ+ individuality, visibility, and collective power. Through a maximalist assemblage of reclaimed toys, paper, cardboard, plastic, and confetti-like fragments, the work transforms marginalized and discarded materials into a radiant expression of joy, resilience, and self-recognition.
Clear plastic beads move throughout the composition as symbols of reflection and visibility — the act of seeing oneself fully, while also being seen by others. They suggest transparency, presence, and the quiet strength required to exist openly and authentically.
The confetti-like elements evoke celebration, marking the piece as both personal affirmation and communal tribute. What was once overlooked or discarded becomes exuberant, powerful, and full of possibility. In this way, Marvel Us speaks to the beauty of transformation: of material, identity, and belonging. It invites the LGBTQ+ community to celebrate itself — as individuals and as a radiant, interconnected whole.
PIKACHU PARTY
PIKACHU PARTY is an exuberant mixed-media celebration of nostalgia, play, and transformation. Composed of confetti, paper, and a plush toy on canvas, the work turns familiar childhood materials into a glittering, maximalist landscape of joy and reinvention.
At the center, Pikachu emerges as both icon and relic — a beloved figure from popular culture reimagined within a dense field of color, texture, and shine. Surrounded by shimmering fragments, floral-like bursts, and layered paper forms, the figure appears almost ceremonial, elevated from toy to talisman.
The use of confetti suggests celebration, but also accumulation: small, discarded remnants gathered into something radiant and whole. In this way, the piece speaks to the artist’s broader interest in reclaiming marginalized materials and giving them renewed value. Paper, plastic, and plush become more than playful objects; they become symbols of memory, resilience, and imaginative possibility.
Bright, tactile, and unapologetically joyful, PIKACHU PARTY invites viewers to reconsider what is precious, what is collectible, and what deserves to be seen. It is a party, a shrine, and a declaration of delight.
