JENNIFER BEDENBAUGH
Bedenbaugh is a multidisciplinary artist whose creative journey has been shaped by persistence, self-discovery, and a passion for exploring diverse mediums. With a degree in graphic design from the University of South Carolina School of Art in 1993, she began her professional path in landscape design, initially inspired by an interest in environmental design. However, life’s twists and turns—marriage, a move to Greenville, South Carolina, and raising two sons—took her in unexpected directions, eventually leading her back to her artistic roots.
In 2008, she sought a creative outlet and discovered a love for ceramics during a workshop. This newfound passion grew into a thriving ceramics business, Crave Studio, where she created and sold housewares for five years. While this period honed her craft and taught her invaluable lessons, it also revealed her desire to move beyond retail and explore art with deeper conceptual purpose.
In 2015, she shifted her focus to mixed-media sculpture, opening a private studio at Art & Light Gallery. Although her first show marked a milestone, doubts about the purpose and audience for her work led to a three-year hiatus. But in 2018, a transformative metalsmithing workshop at Penland School of Craft reignited her creative drive. Immersed in the craft, she realized her work need not seek external validation—her voice and vision were enough.
By 2020, she fully embraced her identity as an artist. That year, she presented The Soliloquy Project, her first solo exhibition at Art & Light Gallery, a deeply personal body of work that solidified her commitment to her craft. Today, she works joyfully in her home studio, creating thought-provoking pieces that reflect her journey and voice.
Her work embodies resilience, curiosity, and a celebration of the artist’s role as both a communicator and explorer. Each piece tells a story of growth, reinvention, and the courage to embrace one’s calling.
