Stormie Burns

Stormie Burns is a Western North Carolina ceramic artist and cast glass artist whose work is rooted in material exploration, craft tradition, and a deep connection to place. Originally from Central Florida, Burns relocated to Western North Carolina in 2015 to work as a studio assistant, immersing herself in one of the country’s most vital craft communities and beginning the next chapter of her studio career.

In the winter of 2019, Burns completed the highly regarded two year Core Fellowship at Penland School of Craft, a formative experience that helped refine her interdisciplinary approach to ceramics and cast glass. Her practice reflects a strong technical foundation paired with an evolving artistic voice, shaped through rigorous making, experimentation, and dialogue within the contemporary craft field.

Burns has also completed artist residencies at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts and Penland School of Craft, further expanding her experience within leading craft institutions known for innovation in ceramics, glass, and material based art. These residencies have contributed to her development as a contemporary craft artist working across mediums with sensitivity to form, process, and surface.

After several years living and working in Asheville, North Carolina, Burns returned to Bakersville, NC, where she has established a full time studio practice. Her studio, tucked along the forest’s edge, provides a quiet and immersive setting that informs her creative process and supports a disciplined rhythm of making. Working in this landscape rich region of Western North Carolina, Burns continues to build a body of work that bridges ceramic art and cast glass through a distinctly personal and place driven perspective.

Stormie Burns’ work will resonate with collectors, curators, and art lovers interested in contemporary ceramics, cast glass, Penland affiliated artists, and the broader studio craft movement in North Carolina.
